How long does it take to become a teacher? Specific rules vary from state to state, but in general prospective teachers are required to obtain a license by completing a bachelor’s or higher degree at an accredited institution, with majors or concentrations in education and the subject matter they will be teaching. This usually includes a semester as an intern or student teacher.
For those of us who already have a degree, there are two year “certification only” programs, where you concentrate specifically on education courses and the internship, and anything lacking in your core area of teaching.
