If you are interested in a medical field that does not require nearly a decade in academia you may ask yourself, “How long does it take to become a paramedic?” To become a paramedic one usually starts out as an EMT. To become a basic EMT you must have a high school diploma and participate in a state mandated 18-24 month program.
Aspiring paramedics then receive on the job training to become an intermediate EMT. Hopeful paramedics enjoy the convenience of being trained on the job in life saving procedures and how to administer intravenous fluids. The intermediate program requires from 30 to 350 hours of training depending on your state.
After completing intermediate training you then have the opportunity to be schooled toward becoming a full paramedic. An associates degree is required for the position and usually takes two years to obtain, but once becoming a paramedic your opportunities for advancement will grow as well.
But before you commit to any program or school, we recommend researching and comparing numerous sources.
